A choir of voices luring the visitor into a shimmering trap where control is as seductive as it is unsettling. What defines an entity? In Echo of Cyan, we worked with visual material reminiscent of fleshy organs and bodily fluids. These visceral elements became the skin, lungs and blood of the body, we named Cyan. The music became its pulse and voice, the IV bags its veins and the movements of the performers and the audience became the poison that activated the room and intoxicated it. By the use of sensors that trigger interactive sound sculptures, the performers were able to disturb and interfere with the soundscape. exploring and dissecting the effects of a collective broken heart. It was developed in collaboration with 20 artists, dancers, musicians and performers. In this year of pandemic and global pain, working together with Christianshavns Beboerhus, we explored the idea of an institute as a physical place where stories of deception, pain, empathy, but also new hope is told and shared.During the performance, the audience is divided into three groups of eight, that simultaneously move through the house. The narrative takes a starting point in Dante’s Inferno. Following the structure of the journey, the audience is guided through the nine circles of the institute, by one of the three “Shades”. The installation is built up as a crossing with three long corridors and three rooms representing the archetypes: Present, Future and Past. In each of the rooms the audience encounters two video projections depicting allegories and metaphors of each archetype. Each room has a trace of the others in them, creating a feeling of deja-vu.The Spiral was created as a platform where other artists could inhabit the universe with their own expression and by doing so, contributing to the collective narrative of the installation. Over the course of four evenings, 25 artists came into The Spiral and created a different experience each evening.
